Masonite siding

Offered a house built in 1981 with ok price, but have concerns with the siding called masonite, does anyone have a house with masonite siding? a little research shows that this kind of siding can get rotten easily and needs replacement piece by piece or residing the whole house which can cost 10k - 20k. I'm wondering if I should aviod the houses with masonite siding, please give your thoughts.
