I was connected with AMT division and was put on hold for more than 30 min. Then a lady answered by reading out her badge number. I asked the same question about line 30. She took out the Form 6251 and told me to do what it says: Go to line 31.
"Subtract line 29 from line 28. If more than zero, go to line 31. If zero or less, enter -0- here and on lines 31, 33, and 35, and go to line 34.............."
I asked:"that means do not enter the result of the Subraction on line 30" She said :" It does not say so" I took down her badge number.
As matter of fact I got the form done 3 days ago. To enter the result of the subraction on line 30 seemed to be the obvious. That was what I did. When I went throught the form for the third time yesterday I started to have second thoughts.
Even though I am not 100% convinced by my call to IRS. I would be glad if the experience in anyway would let people feel better about themselves.
