husband's EIN

My hu*****and applied an EIN in 2009 from IRS web site, he planned to use it to accept contract jobs but later he found another job so did not use this EIN at all. He did not do anything with it, did not apply anything in the state (IL).   Now we are doing tax return,  do I even need to mention this at all on our tax return?   I guess I won't be able to deduct anything for it either, right? 

Is my understanding correct?
