This is what I found regarding Waymo

 Waymo uses remote human support (Fleet Response) for its self-driving cars, but they don't remotely "steer" or "joystick" the cars; instead, operators provide high-level guidance, like suggesting alternative routes or confirming actions, in complex situations where the AI needs strategic advice, not direct control, Waymo. The remote team answers questions, offers context, and helps the vehicle plan its next move, acting as a "phone-a-friend" for complex scenarios, not a continuous driver.
