This message is from the Risk Management staff at Treasury Retail Securities Services. We are writing to provide an update regarding your TreasuryDirect account. Your account shared some characteristics of accounts that have recently raised fraud concerns, including a redemption request and changed banking information. Risk Management placed a lock on your account as a precautionary measure. Unfortunately, the redemption request could not be cancelled prior to payment.
Upon receipt of an acceptable, certified FS Form 5444, this hold has been removed. Please review your banking information, Security history, etc. We suggest that you take measures to increase the security of your account, i.e. using an Email address dedicated solely for use in conjunction with your TreasuryDirect, changing up your, Password, changing Security Questions, etc. Review your account carefully.
As outlined in 31 C.F.R. § 363.17, account owners are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of their account number, password, and any other authentication credentials like One-time passcodes (OTP). Any transaction conducted using your login information is treated as authorized. TreasuryDirect is not liable for any loss, liability, cost, or expense resulting from such transactions.
If this hold was placed in error and you did authorize the redemption of securities to the new bank account on file, we apologize for any inconvenience.
