  • Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was temporarily suspending his province’s planned 25% surcharge on electricity exported to the U.S.
  • Ford said U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick agreed to renewed trade talks.
  • President Donald Trump had responded to Ford by ordering 50% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports. 
  • After the call between Lutnick and Ford, a White House adviser confirmed that Trump had also backed down.
