One of my friend from CFPB got an email on a Saturday, not from Elon. He was told to stop any work, no access to the central computer system, no access to the office building, but no layoff. So he still gets paid with all the benefits, pretty much like paid vacation.
Another friend from FDIC, his entire department was eliminated at the end of January. Well, not lay off, paid vacation. This week he was notified to report to work in 2 weeks at a different office. In the meantime, his colleague was informed being laid off, with a huge package with 18 month government health insurance. My friend, in his early 30s, was really envious of his colleague.
Neither of them can liquidate their 401K. BTW, the government 401K plan is excellent with all kinds of choices and extremely low fee.
