矽穀前居士的投資悲慘經曆

1.     在1997年開始在WorldCom工作，當時該公司的股票已經連續上漲了好幾年。401k全額投資於WorldCom股票（WCOM），後來該公司破產了（當時401K 可以100%投資工作的公司股票。後來在WorldCom、Enron和Lucent破產後，監管規定不能超過50%）。在集體訴訟之後返還了幾%。這是我從class action訴訟中獲得的唯一一次收益。

2.     1999年加入了灣區的一家optical switch startup。所有股票都瘋狂漲， 2 really happy years。在2001年光纖通信會議 （OFC）上，Agilent的股價一天內漲幅超過30%。然後市勢轉變了。很多有基本麵的熱門股票跌了90%，如果它們沒有基本麵，跌幅為95-99%。想當於無薪工作了幾年。startup 關門時all hands meeting一個founder 說一句話 "You (or all of us?) robbed $100M from rich". 我仍能記得 lol。

3.     對股市失去信心，於是我們求助於一家Fortune 500強公司的人力資源部門 (HR)介紹兩個投資顧問。我們挑了一個華人，讓我們投資於Midland和Allianz提供的年金，有6%或8%的保證回報（具體百分比我忘了，時間在2002年至2004年之間）。我當年不知道保證隻針對10年期鎖定期結束時年滿55歲以上的人。Penalty for early termination.

4.     根據這個華人financial advisor的建議購買了一個房地產投資信托（REIT），每年支付6%或8%的收益。將股息再投資於股票。2008年金融危機後，贖回關閉了，股息減少到1%或2%。股票逆向分割 (reverse split)。最終竟然在大約2014年上市（損失了10年。也許是按麵值計算持平）。

5.     在2010年將一些資金投入到Smith Barney或 Morgan Stanley的機構投資中。比標準普爾500指數差得多。I remember we passed some money to institutional investment at TD Waterhouse just before 2008 financial crisis. Luckily he did not put all money into stocks right away. He did made some money for us but one thing I don’t like: a few tiny China associated stocks.

SP500 annual return are 0 , 13%, 30%, 11% in 2011-2014 not counting divident. QQQ annual returns are 

2014 17.94%

2013 34.99%

2012 16.82%

2011 2.70%

 

6.     從2013年開始再次自行管理，主要投資於QQQ,蘋果股票,rental。要是當年買apple iPhone 1 時買 AAPL股票就好了
