Start-up, which is potentially a highly hazardous activity, is that phase of the project when
the commissioning activities have been completed and process feedstocks for production purposes is introduced for the first time (initially at low feed rates); also adjustment of operating conditions (temperatures, pressures, etc), line-out of equipment at specified operating conditions, and increasing feed rates in increments to design capacity. The start- up phase is complete when sustained manufacture of on-specification products has been achieved.
