Qian was made (classed) a Rightist for his courageous criticism on China's education reform in the 1950s, he was thus deprived of(stripped) the right of teaching (to teach) at (the) University, and arranged to be responsible for cleaning lab for one year followed by working at a plant ( and condemned to cleaning lab for one year and later to work at a plant) .

And during the period of the work reforming at the plant, because of his expertise and overseas experience, he was requested by Premier Zhou En-Lai to join a delegation, which was to be sent out to UK,US, and etc (other countries in the west) for visiting and exchanging as a necessary move (not sure about the history, you mean an exchange visit, why it is a necessary move?) and sign of China's new foreign policy in the early 1970s.

(It was during that time working in the plant, Qian was enlisted by Premier Zhou En-Lai to join a delegation to visit UK and US, largely because of his technical expertise and oversea experience. This is seen as a sign of China's new foreign policy in the early 1970s.)

In 1983 Qian was commissioned to be (appointed) the President of Shanghai Polytechnic University, what is now known as the Shanghai University (now the Shanghai University). This was a life-long offer made by the then veteran powerful (powerful veteran) leader: Deng Xiao-Ping. Most probably he could be honoured as the world's oldest university president (Not sure this is a statement or the reason he got the job).

With his devotion and sustained reform (???) , the original technical university (institutution) has now developed (morphed) into a comprehensive university, and in many areas, the roles of the university are now indispensable (not sure what you try to say)

No life on the earth is immortal, he has thus been passed away. (Now that he has passed away, as mortal as all lives on the Earth. Really, I would simply say, Now that he is gone) But for sure he will be remembered for the contributions he made for his life-long-served society (he made to the human society). Thank you the great being!
