I don’t watch much Desperate housewives. But regarding to these idioms, I think I can help explain:

Carlos回家很晚,帶了禮物來想以此打發Gabrielle.
Gabrielle說:no,no,no.you're not gonna buy your way out of this one.
這個是什麽意思呢?是詞組嗎?
>> that means that you can’t bribe me to get away with what you have done.
你作錯了,不能買好禮物討好我,就了事了,你還要為此有個說法,要負責.

- how are you holding up? 什麽意思,一般怎麽回答?
>> how are you doing? How are you managing? Especially through tough times
hold up堅持
問別人過的如何,特別指困境中

還有以下短語的意思:
-say no more, I'll get out of your hair
>>俺不會再煩你了,get out of your hair = get off one’s back

-take her out at the knees = defeat *****
>>把某人拖出去,這個人膝蓋著地,想象一下,就是把某人擊敗,打個半死

-just so you know,
-get off on the wrong feet
>> get off on the wrong feet with *****
和某人關係沒搞好,特別強調是一開始的時候

反義詞 get off the right feet with ***** 和某人關係搞好= get in good with ***** (my Wimpy kid article)
