Just a follow up

Personally, the joy of learning English, or any language for that matter, is not the language per se, but the concepts alien to my native Chinese and the cultures that nurture those concepts. For example, when I only speak Chinese, I know Eros, phileo, but never agape.

From a computer science background, I can say that learning assembly is about knowing the machine architecture, Lisp about functional programming, and C about the operating system.

Language itself is never the end but the means.
