"Please Bury me Deep and Well" - by Lilac09

Once there were two men, one young and one old. They went hunting in the mountains. Unfortunately, they got lost and the mountains got snowed in. They couldn’t get out. Luckily, they found a cabin for the rangers, which had enough food and supplies for them to survive even the whole winter. The only problem was that they were completely cut off from the outside and couldn’t reach anybody or be rescued.

But when people found them three months later, they were both dead. The young man obviously shot himself to death while the old man who died from illness was also shot after his death. So what happened there? From the journals they left, below was the story that got pieced together.

It was ok at the beginning. Everyday, the young man went outside to collect some firewood and the old man did the housework. The old man liked to sit by the table in the middle of the living room, keeping a journal of their daily life, although actually there was not much to write down in such an isolated environment, just a way to kill the boring time, which they obviously had too much of.

However, later on the old man got sick and became sicker and sicker. On his deathbed, he repeatedly asked the young man to bury him deep and well after he died. The young man honored his partner’s last wish after the old man passed away. Then he continued with the journal. Life became lonelier and more unbearable for the young man, not much to record each day.

One night, the young man felt very restless and uneasy in his sleeping.  He turned and tossed, tossed and turned. When he woke up the next morning, he was soaked in a pool of cold sweat, totally exhausted. He must have had a very bad nightmare. Something disturbed him deeply inside but he had no clue. He decided to eat something first, maybe a bowl of warm porridge, to brace himself a little bit.

Upon setting his first step on the living room, the young man was petrified, every single hair on the back of his neck standing up, every single drop of blood in his body seemingly drained out, sitting in the middle of the room by the table was none other than the old man, in exactly the same chair he used to sit. The young man felt his heart stop in sheer horror. 30 minutes or more passed before he could move to check what the hell was going on. It was still the dead body of the old man.

How come the dead body could crawl back by itself? Maybe it was just his hallucination. He had been staying in this damn deserted place way too long, and his mind started to play tricks on him. He stormed outside, chilly gusty wind immediately slashing into his face, so painful. It was not day dreaming. He realized. There was nobody in sight. There was no trace that anyone else had ever come here. And there was a corpse sitting in the living room. Suddenly, the old man’s words rang in his head, “Please bury me deep and well”.

Although the young man was shaken to his core, he tried his best to cool down, mustered up his remaining courage, dragged the corpse farther into the field and buried it again. This time he dug the hole much deeper, pressed down the soil much harder after burying. But the same nightmare just wouldn’t give up haunting him, profuse cold sweat, dreadful exhaustion, and the old man’s dead body again appeared sitting by the table the following morning. The young man was completely freaked out this time. He shot the body with frenzy, dragged it much farther from the cabin and buried it even deeper. But it didn’t help.  The corpse showed up in the living room the third time, in the same chair again. The poor guy had his last nerve snapped. He couldn’t take it any more, simply drew out the gun and killed himself.

That is why the bullets were found in the both bodies. But the real question here is what the heck was going on in that cabin. How to explain that the dead body creepily showed up after having been buried? There must be some logical explanation here. This is not just another silly ghost story about zombies or vampires.

Could you, my friends here, give me some logical explanation?

If you can’t, I have to post my answer later on.

Happy Halloween to everyone!
