To be a referee of someone disqualified is tricky. If you say too many good words, your credibility will be at risk; if you become candid, your friendship/workship with that person will be broken if he/she finds out.

And I think, as referee, you can always throw in these words: he/she is a team player; easy to get along; hard working; always meet deadlines; blah blah…. Those are safe and universally applicable.
