You can also say, "watched pot never boils".

I picked this idiom from my boss. Once we had lots of crashing issues on the server, so we decided to closely monitor it to see what the heck was going on. However, it seemed that it could read our minds for it suddenly stopped its crashing routine. We waited and waited. Then my boss popped up this idiom - It seems that watched pot never boils_:o
