"You are what you eat" means your diet directly shapes your physical and mental health, energy, and overall well-being; nutritious foods build a healthy you, while unhealthy choices lead to poor health, reflecting the idea that the quality of your food determines the quality of your body and spirit. It's a proverb suggesting food isn't just fuel but fundamentally impacts your being, influencing everything from cell regeneration to mood.
It is also a metaphor. What you watch, the stuff you read, and the people you hang out with all influence the person you are.

HO HO HO! Holiday seasons are here, children are back in the nest (temporarily :-). It's festival time together with families & friends, and time to feast!
Talking about food, there was an interesting discussion a few days ago about seafood, in one of the wxc forums. Being a supertaster, I understand fully what others meant by something that tastes like plastic.
For example, the live lobsters you buy in the store tasted like plastic, compared to the fresh ones that just came out from the sea. The reason is simple (to me @least 
): they have been fed man-made food in the store tank. So after a few days, they are what they eat!!! The same for the farmed fish vs wild fish.
BTW I highly recommend an excellent animation film that I've watched multiple times but still feel watching: "Ratatouille", if you haven't got a chance to watch it yet.
It's a fiction story about a kitchen boy and Remy the rat (not a mouse 
) chef, very very funny and touching at the same time (see full movie below). I'm sure your children would love it, too.
Note, Ratatouille is also the name of a classic, rustic and colourful Provençal French veg stew which I learnt to cook after watching the film. I served it to young vegan relatives before, and they all love it.
