"Less is more" means that having just the essential things is better than having way too many superfluous things.
The roots of “Less is more” can be traced back to the poet Robert Browning, who used it in his 1855 poem “Andrea del Sarto”. I bet you all have seen and used the phrase before (checked this morning, there are some mentions even in MYSJ here 
). Hope that you don't mind me sharing some of my own.
More or less, women all have some jewellery. I have a few gold, pearl, and diamond ones given by parents, friends, and hubby. But what I like and wear the most are these three simple ones shown in picture below.
Why? Why not? 
First, they are inexpensive but sentimental (necklace was 10USD from Honolulu Hawaii; bracelet was 5Euro from Porto Portugal; The sunglasses were free with a bottle of wine from Toronto 
), and I never need to worry about thieves. And more importantly: they fit my fashion motto: simple and elegant, and "less is more"!
