APAD: Murphy's Law & Yhprum's Law

本帖於 2025-04-05 15:55:02 時間, 由普通用戶 最西邊的島上 編輯

Murphy's Law, a common saying, is a humorous or satirical way of expressing the idea that if something can go wrong, it probably will.  Or if there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong.

While the exact origins are debated, it's often attributed to Edward Murphy Jr., an Air Force engineer, in the 1950s.

Wait, here comes the bonus: Yhprum's Law!

It is the opposite of Murphy's Law (yhprum = murphy backwards 鬼臉) . The simple formula of Yhprum’s Law is: "Everything, that can work, will work".

It is attributed to Richard Zeckhauser, a professor for political economy at Harvard University: "Sometimes systems that should not work, work nevertheless."

Murphy's Law is a term used often by me, as it happens often to me 微笑.  eg. when I ride bike and see an object on the path, I often would ride right into it even when I was so focused to avoid it.

Yhprum's Law is a new term I learned this morning, thanks to Google.  But it ain't a stranger, as we have had it so far on good weather during all our trips abroad, so much so I even gave it a name: "weather god" who blesses us with good weather.

Wish you all are blessed by Yhprum's Law today, and everyday!
