"Flowers are only flowers because they fall" is from the TV drama Shōgun, spoken by a Japanese aristocrat named Lady Mariko.
Some say that the line alludes to the transient beauty of the sakura (櫻花), and that the finiteness of life gives it more value. Others say that the line could be commenting on the ebb and flow of human relationships, mortality, or the fact that good things are only good things because they come to an end.

2024 FX series Shōgun is a well done and well received TV show based the book by James Clavell. It is really worth watching IMHO. I was hit by the line when I was watching that episode, as it is a beautiful yet powerful metaphor wrt love and life.
The news of 瓊瑤's passing hit me again yesterday and reminded me of this line ... ...
Whether or not you are fan of 瓊瑤 and/or 三毛, they and their books represent a special era in our lives, i.e. our youths and our dreams then.
It's very hard to talk about death, never mind planning for it as 瓊瑤 did. But personally I can understand and respect her decision at the last stage of her life. Actually I respect her even more now, for her thoughtfulness and for her courage.
You had a free and beautiful soul ... ... RIP 瓊瑤!
