One day last week, we went to our favourite bakery downtown. It was late in the day, there were still a few fresh loaves ofbread, but only one lonely and broken ginger cookie left in the cookie jar.
I looked at the cookie and felt sorry for it and asked the young woman at the counter" "what will you do with this broken cookie"?
She may have sensed the sorriness from my voice and smiled: "we may still try to sell it".
I bought a multigrain bread and said before paying: "I will take that cookie, too".
She packed my order, charged my credit card and gave the bread and cookie bags and bill to me.
I glanced at the bill: "eh, there was only the charge of the bread, but not $2 for the cookie?"
She smiled again: "it is yours for free".
I thanked her and we walked another half hour before stopping at the city square.
A young student looking lady was in the square playing a cello. We like the sound of cello so we sat down listened to the beautiful music.
Then I took my wallet out and found a $5 dollar bill in it (note I don't normally carry any cash), and walked over to the young lady and dropped the money into her box.
She smiled and nodded to me.
The sun just peeked out, I ate the cookie and felt very warm, both inside and out.
What a wonderful world ....
