This expression is usually said as an encouragement to a person who is overcome by some difficulty and is unable to see any positive way forward.
The origin of the idiom is most likely traceable to the year 1634, when John Milton pennedhis masque Comus. In it, the quote appears as “Was I deceived or did a sable cloud Turn forth her silver lining on the night?”

------------------------------
The most recent pandemic in our history, Covid -19, has impacted our lives for more than 4 years now. Somehow I felt the world stopped and we all lost almost two precious years of our lives, especially during the first year, when almost all schools, including universities, stopped in-person classes. I got Covid in April of 2020 with a 911 ambulance trip to the ER. I still remember the very scary feeling as the only patient in the empty ER ward.staring at the white ceiling.
But I survived, and the world survived. Children kept growing and life kept moving on. Believe it or not, there is even a silver lining coming with it: "the most common benefits of the crisis included more time with family and friends, and a slower pace of life". I also believe that the wild animals were probably happier during the pandemic when we were not around as much.
