This says patience pays.
I first heard of it in the 1991 movie "The Silence of the Lambs," a gruesome thriller which I enjoyed over and over again in the following years. According to Hannibal Lecter, the sin of the killer was that he "covets." Many years later, this word, with its biblical connotation, very much impressed my Catholic friend and colleague. It was fun.
OK. Come back to the topic. Here is the dialogue where the proverb appears:
Clarice: You know who killed him, don't you? Tell me who decapitated your patient, doctor.
Lecter: All good things to those who wait. I've waited, Clarice, but how long can you and old Jackie Boy wait?
