Above the Dock
by Thomas Ernest Hulme (1883-1917)
Above the quiet dock in mid night,
Tangled in the tall mast’s corded height,
Hangs the moon. What seemed so far away
Is but a child’s balloon, forgotten after play.

A Few Words About The Poet
T.E. Hulme died young as a British soldier during the First World War. His short poems, as well as his short life, have a long-lasting impact on modern English literature. A leading advocate for Imagism, he always came up with surprisingly fresh perceptions of mundanities and stereotypes of everyday life. Indeed, there's no everyday life in every line he wrote.
