在英語中使用雙重否定句子是一個令人困惑的問題；對美國人也是如此。一些學者建議避免使用雙重否定
句子。但在現實中，雙重否定句子還是大量存在在口語，電影對白以及文章中。實際上，英語中的雙重否定
(Double Negative) 還是否定的意思，隻是強調否定。下麵是一些雙重否定句子的例子：
(例句取自一些英語書籍)
After he was laid off, Hal realized that he didn't need none of the luxuries.
Mr. Brown said he ain't got none of those apples that you want.
Bart says he hasn't seen Betty nowhere.
令人困惑的是雙重否定句子有時表示肯定的意思，但經常是有一點肯定(lukewarm)。見下麵的例句：
I was not unhappy with my recent raise.

盧梭的《社會契約論》英譯片段：
Of the various segments that could have been taken from what I had written, this one is the longest, and seems to me the least unworthy of being offered to the public.
其林譯：在其中可以單獨提取出來的各種片段中，這本書是最長的，好像也是最不值得公布於眾的一部分。

在英語中還有一些以“雙重”帶頭有爭議的論題，如，雙重介詞 (inside of , from among, etc.)；
