Pretty bad, right? But the US's rate was a whopping 42.4%. Strolling down a street in, say, New York City, one sees not people, but little mountains moving around. Some among us may think obesity is not a problem in China. Wrong! Over half of adults in China, or more than half a billion people, are now overweight, an official report has found. The figures have risen significantly since 2002, when 29% of adults in China were overweight. (China defines overweight as a BMI of 24 or higher and obesity a BMI of 28 or higher.
This gives new meaning to the Chinese saying: People mountain people sea.
