When President Nixon visited China for the first time in 1972, Premier Zhou specially arranged for the military band to perform "America the Beautiful" in the welcoming banquet, which left a deep impression on Nixon, Kissinger and other American guests.
More than 100 years ago, this song's lyrics as a poem were written by Katharine Lee Bates and its music was composed by church organist and choirmaster Samuel Ward separately.
