its gold dollar was still king dollar. As for Hitler, he did basically what Stalin had been doing all along --- nationalizing the economy while robbing his victims of their lives and wealth. Unlike Stalin, though, Hitler badly needed resources. He didn't have gold dollars to trade for what he needed, which was why he pursued "Lebensraum" like there's no tomorrow. In a sense, Napoleon Bonaparte also conquered for resources as France alone couldn't feed its people who were prone to bread riots, which could trigger off revolutions.
