finally you got this video. This guy indeed has biological connection with the Rutherfurd family. Probably, he inherited the writing genes from his grandma, an influential writer. He is so funny as to have the humor of joking about the unusual family romance of the Rutherfurd ancestors,  This romance went on for so many generations without interruption. It is really a wonder, a deep and rich  source of various stories.  I guess this may be the reason he made himself a historical novelist.  He is open, and fact-respecting. These qualities won him a huge readership.
