Legacy of US-Japan sea battles in WWII. But our boat skipped them, as this trip is not wreck diving. However, we did stop at Delsan Wreck, a site where an American warship went aground and had to be dismantled to pieces and removed, at expense of US Navy. South China Sea is a shallow pond, hard for submarines but easy for survalence planes, a point not lost on the minds of military planners on both sides. China recently recalled its naval veterans to serve again, a step closer to possible armed conflict, if US keeps pushing and agitating. Sad.
