I wonder, by my troth, what thou and I
Did, till we loved? Were we not weaned till then?
But sucked on country pleasures, childishly?
Or snorted we in the Seven Sleepers’ den?
’Twas so; but this, all pleasures fancies be.
If ever any beauty I did see,
Which I desired, and got, ’twas but a dream of thee.

婚誓以真實，我好奇，在相愛之前

Which watch not one another out of fear;
For love, all love of other sights controls,
And makes one little room an everywhere.
Let sea-discoverers to new worlds have gone,
Let maps to other, worlds on worlds have shown,
Let us possess one world, each hath one, and is one.

你眼眸映我臉，你臉現我眼眸，

直率又真實的心腸顯現在臉龐；

既無往北急彎，也無偏斜西向。

凡要死的，都是不平等的摻和；

注釋：

1. Where can we find two better hemispheres,/Without sharp north, without declining west?這兩句中的兩個半球，是指在地圖上越往上越陡峭的北半球和英國所在的陸地看起來往西偏的西半球。作者把兩人的眼睛（作為提喻，用部分代表整體，兩個眼睛在這裏也可以指兩個人，等等）比作像地圖一樣可以分開的兩個半球，其實是合為一個的地球。

2. Whatever dies, was not mixed equally：有人指出，這句是當時的煉金術的理論的演繹。煉金術認為兩份純潔的相同的元素聚合在一起就會永生，而稍微有雜質的兩份相同的元素的混合仍是死亡。作者用此表達兩人之間的純潔愛情。

3. 請注意這首詩裏麵有許多有意思的比喻: 如把夫妻互相觀賞對方的行為比作是看地圖。這就是為什麽朗誦者說：“I actually used to annoy girlfriends by reciting it to them when I was a young man”的原因。另外還有些很有意思的地方--比如說，everywhere在這裏是宇宙的代名詞--讀者應該可以根據我的譯文體會出來了。
