I'm aware of the date format in the U.S. I stick to the accepted format in formal business letters. I'm very happy that the date and time stamp of emails is taken care of by the software automatically, so that I don't have to even think about it.
Here, I chose the Year.Month.Day format as a small reminder of the country where I grew up and where my parents and many family members still live. To me, it has some nostalgic value, just like my hometown accent. So please forgive me for insisting not to follow the Romans on this matter :)
