關於plausible這個詞，它的意思到底是真的可信，還是諷剌式的暗指不可信？

我查過，此詞有三個意思：1，指似乎可信，比如說plausible excuse. 2,指給人一種欺騙性的印象。如果第一個解釋是正麵的，那麽跟第二個意思正好相反。現在我想，會不會是說似乎可信（其實不可信，也就是大家說的似是而非），有一些中國的詞典確實也是這樣翻譯。

問題是下麵這段關於馬航客機被擊落的英語：

Eileen Lainez, a Pentagon spokeswoman, said Khodakovsky's remarks confirmed what US officials had long been saying, that “Russian-backed separatists have received arms, training and support from Russia”.

But she dismissed the rebel leader's efforts to blame the Kiev government for the downing of the airliner, calling it “another attempt to try to muddy the water and move the focus from facts”.

Washington believes that pro-Russian separatists most likely shot down the airliner “by mistake”, not realising it was a civilian passenger flight, US intelligence officials said.

The officials said the “most plausible explanation” for the destruction of the plane was that the separatists fired a Russian-made SA-11 - also known as a BUK - missile at it after mistaking it for another kind of aircraft.

如果從美國軍方的角度，最後一段裏用的plausible就是最可信的解釋（從心裏真的這麽認為），如果用似是而非去譯這個詞，顯然跟美政府的公開說明完全對立，這當然是不可能的事。
