I posted this on another forum to answer a request regarding "classic music" easy to listen. I re-post it here in case that someone is interested.

---- Copy & Paste ----

I’ll find time to update my Blog on how I had this list almost two decades ago. It brought me of many fond memories in my early (but very short) student life in University of Wuthering Heights … Thank you.

Here are some orchestral composers whom were recommended for children to listen:

Lutoslawski,
Messiaen,
John Ireland,
Vaughan Williams,
Stravinsky,
Bartok,
J.S. Bach,
Mahler,
Debussy,
Mark Anthony Turnage,
Gorecki.

You could start with John Ireland's piano concerto, or some organ works by Messiaen, or some Bartok piano concertos, or Bach's St Matthew Passion, or Mahler's 9th symphony, or Debussy's Prelude de l'Apres Mide de la Faune, or Fantasia on a Theme of Thoms Tallis by Vaughan Williams …

Mind you, none of the above are strictly 'classical' in style, but then neither are Vivaldi or Stravinsky.

In addition, my daughter recommended me the following two:

Marksim Mrvica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maksim_Mrvica) - Some of his performance are very passionate, such as his play of "Flight of the Bumble-Bee" of his 2003 album "The Piano Player".

Ludovico Einaudi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludovico_Einaudi) whose calm piano plays turned out to be the companion of my wild driving on the twist winding roads of the Highlands of bonnie Scotland …

Hope you and your children will enjoy them. :)
