SHIRLEY GRIFFITH: Much of today's science of physics is based (ei, when you pronounce /ei/, wearing a big smile on your face) on Newton's discovery of the three laws of motion and his theory (you added s) of gravity (t could be pronounced as d). Newton also developed one of the most powerful tools (/too偶s/) of mathematics. It is the method we call calculus.

Late in his life, Newton said of his work: "If I saw further (f餓r ther) than other men, it was because I stood on the shoulders of giants. "
