Hi Brother 2 you mentioned that learning English here in this forum we should have a silver tongue—know how to say sweet words and offer our lip services to those who help us. Well, what you said reminds me of something and someone back in Toronto years ago.
The other day I said that I met a guy who was very talkative when I volunteered for a non-profit organization as an usher for the Cantonese opera show held in a spectacular theater located in downtown Toronto. Because he was good at talking so that I am afraid even if I and you worked together would not have a chance to talk over him(drown him out). He was not only talkative but he was also very eloquent. Well, don’t get me wrong, I know that I don’t even have the abilities to keep abreast of you,no mention working together, everybody knows that you excel in chatting here,i.e. 你認了是二師兄沒人敢認是大師兄. Brother 2, you are such a talented guy, just like the millions of bamboos engrained in the mountain Chu, and you are the outstanding one on the top of all (other)... And I know that I am just a snail, very slow in response to everything, physically and mentally. So I am anxious that calling you my brother 2 would depreciate your reputation and fade your great image away.
Well, first of all, I need to correct the mistakes I made the other day, I was mistaken that I met that guy in my high school years, actually I met him after I graduated from the community college(bad memories, eh?). I was looking for a job back then and wanted to add something new to my resume, that’s why I was there volunteering.
After that day we somehow became friends, and one day I asked him to go out and have fun with my other friends together, and that was the first time he hung out with us and it was also the last time we got together, unfortunatly. So how about I give him a name Jack? because I can't use his real name, right? Ok, Jack was very knowledgeable, and he had very unique thoughts about things. He was new to Canada and worked in a restaurant, but he was gifted and eloquent, speaking Cantonese. Those friends of mine were Chinese born in Vietnam, and had been raised in Canada, including that guy who could master Chinese language well. Being young and energetic, we were in a high spirits every weekend when we didn't have to work and study, so we figured what we could do to have fun at the end of the week. So one Saturday that summer, it was a beautiful sunny day, we decided to go (on) for an excursion in somewhere 2 hours away from Toronto. We drove on a scenic road and enjoyed beautiful scenery and fresh air on the way, and we sang and chatted,we were happy like the shades of may, and never thought that a frustration waited for us.
After we arrived at our destination, we got out of our car and started to hike up to the mountain which is not high seeing from far away, but later on we found some cliffs there very frightening. We chatted and sang as we hiked up the hill. Our new friend kept talking, endless. He talked about some current events happened back in China, in Cantonese, and he expressed what he thought about what happened, using his loud and strong voice. My other friends, although they are Chinese, but they grew up in Canada so at that time they just had a little Chinese language, I mean, not enough to understand things like news in Cantonese. However, they felt shy to refuse to listen to Jack because they didn’t want to look rude. As a result, after a few hours of listening to Jack, everybody appeared to have a poker face, they got kind of frustrated about Jack's insensitiveness. From then on, no body wanted to invite Jack to participate in whatever we do to have fun. Although I felt embarrassed, there was nothing I could do about what happened, and I thought it ended up like that was a nuisance which I didn't expect. However, from this incident, I have learned that we'd better be a listener first during a conversation with others, and we should observe in the first place, and speak when we feel it is our floor, and be quiet and focus on the speaker when it is somebody else’s turn. And the last but not least, we should offer our lip service to people who help us, saying sweet words to our lovely friends here, especially if we still want to keep coming to this forum and learn. :))Oh, I am just kidding about saying sweet words. However, seriously, dear friends, dear readers, please accept my sincere gratitude for helping me with my English. I found that I have come a long way learning from you guys here. I have improved a lot lately on my pronunciation skills under your kind help, thank you again. I feel so happy and lucky to be here.
Thank you everybody again, thank you every fan of mine(kidding, I am a big fan of you in fact). I think I ‘d better get cracking before I settle myself in the state of being narcissistic and goofy gain. Well, please consider that I am writing this to improve my writing skills, except for the expression of my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all of you. Good day!
