Animal metaphors

 

從用動物作比喻中可以看到一些中西文化的差異。

最近常聽到”underdog“ 一詞，in GOP presidential candidates debate and commentory, in sports etc.

Underdog (competition), a participant in a fight, conflict, or game who is not expected to win

Watchdog: a dog that barks to alert its owners of an intruder's presence

英文中這些與狗有關的詞不是 insulting words。

與狗有關的中文詞句多半帶貶義，侮辱，罵人之類：狗膽包天，走狗。。。。

與狼有關的詞句多半帶貶義：狼狽為奸，色狼，狼心狗肺，白眼狼，中山狼，豺狼虎豹。。。。

“Wolf”is not used much as metaphors.

與豬有關的詞也是帶貶義：笨豬，懶豬，肥豬

英文也用 fat pig

與猴有關的詞表示聰明：孫猴子  英文有：monkey brain 不是smart，是有點spaced out

 

還有很多其它animals，看看大家注意到哪些。
