梅·林（Mei Lam）59歲，本來是個身體健康的人。有一次她用伴侶的血壓計，發現血壓略微偏高。她被開了降壓藥，但藥物讓她出現便秘，繼而引發間歇性肛門疼痛，她在2024年初為了這個問題去求醫。

為她提供治療的是馬哈拉吉（Dr. Ashwin Maharaj）醫生，在網上被宣傳為“微創痔瘡和肛腸手術的領先專家”。
