Mr. Bigbelly, please give an opinion.

I have signed the authorization form to an AutoBody shop for repairing my car,
The original form contents are like the following:
Insured Name: ( My name )
Vehicle make:
Color:
Year:
VIN#:
Insurance company:

I have authorized the repairs on my vehicle and request direct payment on this claim to be make to XXX autobody on my behalf.

I have signed this form when I came to this body shop for damage estimation.
They said they had a lot of paperwork to do, and need to contact the Insurance Company for the damage estimation approval. They need me to sign the form in order to be on behalf of me. They even did not tell me how much they claimed about my car damage repairing then. Actually, it is me myself who got the police report, and finish all the paperwork requested by the insurance company agent.
According to the agent, the only thing the BodyShop did just keep asking the insurance company to pay them the money, even when they have not done anything on my car yet.
The insurance company agent felt very weird, and would rather pay me the money, instead of paying the BodyShop directly.
I feel also uncomfortable with the bodyshop, because, they seems have more interest in the money than getting my car-repairs done, and showed an improper business procedure: get the payment without doing anything.
Who knows if I paid them, and how they deal with my car, who cares about the job quality?

I would rather change some bodyshop else to get the job done, while before I do that,
Would you please give me some opinions about the responsibilities I suppose to take by signing the authorization form.
