-It is true. Only one I-130 is needed for sponsoring the wife and then, the minor child can apply for the immigrant visa at the same time with her mother as her mother's derivative. List the child as the family member in the I-130.
But when they apply for the immigrant visa later, they need to submit two separate DS 260 applications for the immigrant visas, respectively. National Visa Center (NVC) contact your friend (sponsor) later to request the documents and send him the instructions.
