Have you both I-140 got approved? This is a must before you can carry over PD from EB3 to EB2.
Also while I am lucky here that USCIS automatically carried over the PD date since my two I-140s got approved at also same day so they connected them together, there is no explicit rule for UCCIS to automatically do it by themselves. In fact, my company hired lawyer filed a letter with the USCIS confirming that the firm wishes to move forward with the AOS case using the approved EB-2 I-140 with the earliest priority date (EB3). Just calling USCIS and trying to convince them on the phone is too informal and not enough.
