Two placebo-controlled trials have investigated the effect of intravenous vitamin C on acute and post-herpetic neuralgia (Table 2) [69, 70]. Chen et al. carried out a trial in 41 patients with postherpetic neuralgia randomized to receive intravenously 50 mg vitamin C/kg body weight three times over 5 days, or placebo infusion [69].
