June, 2015
Time to take it back to the classroom and pay attention to the health topic of the day, soy isoflavones! An ingredient found in all Estroven®products, soy isoflavones have been clinically proven to reduce hot flashes and night sweats.* Outsmart menopausal hot flashes by taking our Soy Isoflavones 101 to find out what they are and how they can help you find menopause symptom relief.*
What are Soy Isoflavones?
Soy isoflavones are obtained from soybeans. They are a class of phytoestrogens, which means they are plant-derived compounds.1 The term refers to three molecules: genistein, daidzein and glycitein. Geinstein and daidzein are the major components of soy and can be found equivalently in food.2 Glycitein accounts for only 5-10 percent of total isoflavones in soy food products and in comparison to geinstein and daidzein, glycitein has the weakest activity.4 Soy isoflavones mimic human estrogen in certain parts of the body by providing estrogen-like properties.3Although these molecules can act similarly to estrogen, they do not increase hormone levels.5
Soy Isoflavones and Menopause Symptom Relief
During menopause, estrogen will generally decrease but this varies by woman and menopausal stage.6Some women may even have more estrogen present during perimenopause.7 As a result of declining estrogen levels women can often experience a range of uncomfortable symptoms like hot flashes, decreased sex drive, mood swings and vaginal dryness.8 Soy isoflavones provide a drug-free option for menopausal relief by delivering estrogen-like properties.*
Tested and Studied
Soy isoflavones are among the most extensively studied alternatives for hot flashes with more than 25 studies evaluating the effects of soy isoflavones on hot flashes. An analysis of 17 studies has shown that women found soy isoflavones reduced the frequency and severity of hot flashes by more than 50 percent.9Researchers also hypothesize that soy isoflavone consumption may benefit the cardiovascular and bone systems.10
