An acupuncturist with practices in New York City and Brighton was honored with a Most Distinguished Chinese Worldwide Award at the headquarters of the United Nations last month.
David P.J. Hung was recognized for his work in traditional Chinese medicine, spreading the word about Chinese acupuncture therapy. He has served as president and vice president of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies and has a practice 1515 Monroe Ave. in Brighton as well as in Queens and Manhattan.
Co-organized by Huarenbang Asia Association Committee, the Strategic Alliance of Asian-American Non-Profit Organizations, World Council of Peoples for the United Nations and Asian Integrated Media, the annual event received congratulatory letters from the New York State Assembly, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio as well as the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, recognizing the recipients who made efforts to benefit the Chinese community.
This year's honorees include Dr. Henry C. Lee, a forensic scientist; Lisa Lu, a Chinese-born American actress and singer who won the Golden Horse Awards three times in the 1970s; photographer Jinqiang Sun; poet and artist Zhenqi Wu; spiritual therapist Dr. Shi-Pei Lee; chef Huang-June Jan; Yuhan Liu, who served as a bilingual journalist for the The New York Times' Pulitzer Prize finalist nail salon investigation "Unvarnished"; Buchang Zhao, a cardiac and cerebral vascular disease expert; Baohua Duan, an established Qi acupressure master and acupuncturist Hung.
Established in 2010, The Most Distinguished Chinese Worldwide Award is an internationally-recognized award in the Chinese society, honoring the most accomplished individuals who made crucial contributions to the development of the Chinese community. Previous award winners include Nobel Prize laureate Charles K. Kao, U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu and film director Zhang Yimou.
