帶狀皰疹最初的症狀不是紅疹，而經常是先出現頭痛、惡心、發熱或冷，然後才是癢、熱、刺痛...；

它不一定隻出現在軀幹上，頸部、臉和眼也會有；

你可能會多次感染；

它會傳染；

60歲以上的人可以注射疫苗，可降低50%的得帶狀皰疹的風險；

得了後最理想的治療時間是在三天內使用抗病毒藥，越早越好。這些抗病毒藥有葛蘭素史克公司的Acyclovir（英文商品名Zovirax，中文商品名: 熱威樂素）；諾華公司的Farmvir（中文商品名: 抗濾兒）；

高達40%的帶狀皰疹者的疼痛會持續多月或多年。帶狀皰疹如果沒有得到及時處理，病毒未被清除，末梢神經受損，就會有後遺神經痛（postherpetic neuralgia），治療上可用鎮痛藥、神經阻滯注射或甚至植入神經刺激器來阻斷疼痛信號。
