is done in the arms and legs to examine the blood circulation there.
Echocardiogram and Exercise Stress Echocardiogram evaluate the function of the heart and the valves. Carotid Artery IMT Ultrasound Scanning checks the carotid artery's thickness and age (the intima and media sections) and use that as a proxy to evaluate the conditions of the coronary arteries since there seems to be a 96% correlation between the health of the carotid and coronary arteries. These all use ultrasound.
Heart CT Scan is done to evaluate the presence of calcified plaques but it involves radiation exposure and can't evaluate soft plaques which are thought to be the more dangerous type.
I have not read a whole lot about the differences in the efficacy of these methods.
