monosaturated fat increases the good cholesterol and lower the bad cholestreol.
a few terms:
* unsaturated fat, generally healthy
monounsaturated fat, in extra virgin olive oil, avacado etc. increase the good cholesterol (HDL) and lower the bad cholesterol (LDL)
polysaturated fat, in some nuts and fish. similar as above. also known as omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acid.
* Saturated fat, in animal fat. increases the bad cholestrol
* transfat, from chemical process that turns unsaturated fat into saturated fat, such as marginring. very unhealthy.
