just came out, US government considered it as advanced a secret as atomic bomb and would not let anybody export it to other countries. It was said that it would take supercomputers years to crack the key. I know computer tech has progressed significantly during the last decade, but I'd think to crack 128-bit encryption without supercomputers would still take some time, let alone 256-bit. How fast can the cracking SW crack a 128-bit key nowadays? If it takes months or weeks to crack, I don't think there are so many advanced hackers living amongst us who'd spend such a long time just to hack into their neighbors' home network.

What's this 漏洞 you've been talking about? Is it easy to find? Once found, would it let the hacker significantly shorten the time he needs to crack the key? As far as I know, 256-bit would take exponentially longer to crack than 128-bit. That's why people pooh-poohed on 40 and 56-bit encryption and valued 128-bit and higher encryption.

Lastly, why do you think WPA isn't suited for home network, but only for business use instead? Thanks a lot for your explanation & advice!

Yes, ROUTER往外就沒用了, but that is -all_wired!- 給 all_wired! 發送悄悄話 (305 bytes) () 01/13/2005 postreply 15:07:07
