This sounds strange. Let me ask you the following questions:

1. Does this problem always apprear, or it only happens when you try to open a specific file?

2. What is the initial image when you first open the Powerpoint program? Does that pop-up with two options of "New presentation" and "Open an existing file", or it goes directly to a blank file?

3. When your computer stucks, press ctrl + alt + del to open the task manager. What does it say about your powerpoint process, "running" or "not responding"?
