get a new computer. needs help...

I just got a new laptop. I would like to partition the c:\ so, I can have one for system, the other for data. Currently it's 60GB total in c:\. Do i need to buy partition magic to do it, or, I can use some other free tools. How to do it? BTW, how large the system partition should be?

Any other suggestions are very welcomed!!
