he wants you to hear him more, or he wants to hear you more.
If the former, you just listen and show your understanding and appreciation.
If the latter, tell him what you did in the past six months (he may not have known,) and what you plan to work on in the next six months, and any aspiration you have you'd like him to know.
Unless he brings it up (highly doubtful,) the rumored layoffs should not enter the picture. Impress upon him that you expect to be gainfully employed here into the foreseeable future.
